Message from the Dean of Students
Students' transition to college is both rewarding and challenging.
Students undergo intellectual and personal growth and explore new independence as they prepare for education, careers, and lifelong learning beyond New Mexico State University.
As family of NMSU students, you can play a role in the success of your student. For many students, family members are advisors, mentors, and role models. This website will help you connect to services and departments at NMSU that can help your student succeed.
Although New Mexico State University is a different environment from what it was even 5 years ago, fundamental strategies for student success have not changed. Remind your student to:
- Attend class regularly.
- Get involved outside the classroom.
- Introduce himself or herself to professors during office hours.
- Seek help as soon as a difficulty pops up: more options are usually available for those who seek assistance early on.
In this website, our goal is to provide families of NMSU students with information that can help support student success. While this information emphasizes resources for NMSU’s Las Cruces Campus, it should be of use no matter what NMSU campus your student attends. Further, specific information on community college campuses is available on their sites:
We want to be partners with NMSU families in supporting the success of all our students. Please let us know what we can do to help.
Dr. Susan Waldo
Interim Dean of Students
